First-Graders Enjoy Math-Fact Snowball Fight

Miss Kaylee Zona’s first-grade students at McCullough Elementary School enjoyed a snowball fight during a recent math class.

To begin the 2-digit addition review lesson, students were positioned on the floor with their whiteboards getting ready for battle. Students had to grab a crumpled-up paper snowball, use their whiteboard to solve the math problem written on the snowball, and then record their answer.  At the end of each round, students were asked to "throw" their snowball back into the pile and grab another one.

“I love incorporating hands-on learning,” commented Zona. “On this particular cold, snowy day, a snowball fight seemed the perfect way to make math fun.”
