McCullough Second-Graders Concoct Witches’ Brew

In their weekly STEM class, the second-grade students at McCullough Elementary School mixed up several recipes for Halloween-themed concoctions.  Under the guidance of Building Tutor, Miss Alyssa Curran, the students experimented with ingredients such as crushed dragon teeth (baking soda), monster snot (dish soap), unicorn horn (glitter and sugar), troll saliva (vinegar), and vampire toenails (garlic powder).

In one recipe, the students made a “Witches’ Brew" by mixing troll saliva with crushed dragon teeth.  Before mixing, the students made predictions and then watched as their "brew" grew before their very eyes. These two ingredients mixed together caused a wicked chemical reaction.
